To conform to BS7671 18th Edition all distribution boards must now be fitted with and RCD to cover any cable which is not buried less than 50mm within a cavity or wall and also be metal clad. The vast majority of homes do not have cables buried that far inside walls or cavities and therefore do not meet regulations.

As a result the mains board should be changed to a 18th Edition board which offers dual RCD protect for the whole of the installation and fire rating. A new 18th Edition board offers peace of mind to know that your installation and family are protected against electric shocks; all boards come with complete NICEIC certification and a one year guarantee.

If you have an old style distribution board with rewireable fuses or have no RCD protection on your installation then you should seriously consider upgrading to a new 18th Edition Board.
